Chinese New Year 2024 Celebrations at SAMS
Chinese New Year 2024 was a time of joyous festivities at St. Andrew’s Mission School (SAMS), with celebrations spanning across two days on 8th and 9th February. Supported by the efforts of SAMS staff and our Parents Support Group volunteers, our students reveled in a myriad of cultural activities.
Day 1 Highlights:
On the first day, our Parent Support Group volunteers played a pivotal role in setting up three engaging Chinese New Year Stations for our Saints:
Station 1, Calligraphy: Students immersed themselves in the art of calligraphy, mastering the elegant strokes of Chinese characters under the guidance of volunteers.
Station 2, Chinese New Year Gastronomy: Traditional sweet delights awaited students at this station, offering a tantalising taste of Chinese New Year treats.
Station 3, Storytelling: Captivating tales of Chinese New Year folklore came to life as students delved into the rich cultural narratives.
Day 2 Highlights:
The festivities continued on the second day, with students enjoying a series of enriching activities:
Teacher Performances: SAMS teachers and staff dazzled students with lively performances and sing-alongs, spreading festive cheer throughout the school.
Classroom Activities: Students delved deeper into the traditions of Chinese New Year through engaging classroom sessions, learning about the significance of customs and rituals.
Art Time: Creativity flourished as students adorned the school walls with intricate Chinese New Year designs crafted from traditional red packets, symbolizing blessings for the year ahead.
Gift Distribution: A special highlight of the day was the visit of the school Principal and Vice-Principals, who personally distributed Chinese New Year gifts to both staff and students, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie within the school community.
